Friday 16 June 2017 (1534) – Not a good shot at all I admit. Travelling through the Queensway Mersey Tunnel from Birkenhead to Liverpool on board Arriva Merseyside 4506 (MX13 ADO). It was working the Cross River service 437 from West Kirby to Liverpool. Another Arriva bus is heading in the opposite direction. I feature in the photograph at top left!

Friday 16 June 2017 (1509) – Arriva Merseyside 4500 (MX13 AFA), a Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B5LH new in March 2013, seen at the toll gate after emerging from the Queensway Mersey Tunnel in Birkenhead when working service 437 from Liverpool to West Kirby. Cross River branding is carried. Two above ground exit routes from the toll site are available. This one leads towards Chester Street and is a lesser used exit featuring one car gate and one bus gate plus (on the right) a narrow lane for motorcycles that travel toll free.

Two above ground exit routes from the toll site are available. This one leads towards Chester Street and is a lesser used exit featuring one car gate and one bus gate plus (on the right) a narrow lane for motorcycles that travel toll free.

Friday 16 June 2017 (1505) – Arriva Merseyside 8214 (M514 WHF) is a Wright Endurance bodied Volvo B10B new in October 1994. It had been adapted to carry a small number of passengers with their bicycles through the Queensway Mersey Tunnel between Liverpool and Birkenhead during the time of track renewal on the Wirral Loop Railway Line. It was seen here as it entered the tunnel at Birkenhead.

Friday 16 June 2017 (1532) – Approaching the toll gates of the Queensway Mersey Tunnel at Birkenhead on board Arriva Merseyside 4506 (MX13 ADO) working the Cross River service 437 from West Kirby to Liverpool. The bus up ahead was on the approach to the tunnel mouth. The buildings beyond stand on Cross Street. Two above ground exit routes from the toll site are available, the principal exit is through the toll gates further along to the right of where this photograph was taken. A lesser exit leads towards Chester Street and is the yellow roofed canopy above the Queensway sign on the right of the photo. That exit features one car gate and one bus gate plus a narrow lane for motorcycles that travel toll free.

Friday 16 June 2017 (1516) – Two Arriva Merseyside Wrightbus Eclipse Gemini 3 bodied Volvo B5LHs emerging from the Queensway Mersey Tunnel at Birkenhead when on rail replacement work connected with track renewal on the Wirral Loop Line. The second bus features a message on the advertising panel that the work was set to end during the forthcoming weekend. The destination display shows ‘B C Extra’ which I believe indicates ‘Birkenhead Central’. The leading bus shows a fully worded display.
