France: SAT, Haute Savoire - Aug 1990

August 1990 – SAT (Société Annemassienne de Transports) operated a number of services in and around Cluses, Haute Savoire. Bus 112 (4103 SF 74), a Kässbohrer-Setra (S140 ES?), seen turning from Grande Rue into Place Charles de Gaulle. It had just returned on a service from Sardagne about 23 kilometres (14 miles) away. It carries a Ville de Cluses town shield close the the SAT fleetname on each side.

Bus 132 (1164 TE 74) is a S140 ES model. Behind it is bus 112 (4103 SF 74) which looks similar. The destination blinds show Sardagne, a village about 23 kilometres (14 miles) away.

August 1990 – SAT (Société Annemassienne de Transports) Mercedes-Benz O 303 seen at Cluses railway station.

Saturday 1 September 1990 (approx. 1100) – SAT (Société Annemassienne de Transports) 27 (7926 RS 74), a Mercedes-Benz O 303, seen at making a very quick set down of two passengers in Annemasse bus station on what I think was the 0945 service from Sixt to Geneva where it was due at 1120. So quick it was that I didn’t get chance to take a front view before it sped away.

Sunday 26 August 1990 – In Haute Savoire SAT vehicles could be found in a number of locations. However, on the different timetables I obtained during my visit the initials related to two different company names - ‘Société Annemassienne de Transports’ and ‘Société Alpes de Transports’. Coach 51 (7326 SC74), a Van Hool T815 Alizee, was seen in Le Fayet – the name of the town is on the side. This, I think, made it a Société Alpes de Transports vehicle.

Friday 31 August 1990 – The small town of Samoëns in Haute Savoire, France had a rather charming bus station (and tourist information office) from where the services of SAT (Société Annemassienne de Transports) ran. Unfortunately I didn’t time my mid-afternoon visit very well as there were no departures or arrivals when I was there. The town is situated in the Upper Giffre Valley and attracts tourists all year round. In summer it boasts some colourful floral displays and in winter is a resort with activities that include ski-ing, dog sledding and, I have read, diving under ice! The valley has had a limestone cutting industry since the 17th century and there have been many quarries dotted around the valley. The bus station building features some attractive stonework.
