Thursday 16 June 2016 (1038) - Spirit Buses, based in Rothbury, Northumberland, is run by Steve Hurst. The main service 15 runs from Thropton via Rothbury to Alnwick four times a day, six days a week. Additionally on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays during the summer months service 16 runs two circular clockwise trips beyond Thropton round the villages of the Coquet Valley. Not only does this extension provide a valuable facility for the local residents but it is also advertised as a ‘Valley Tour’ enabling visitors to make a one hour circuit out from and back to Rothbury and enjoy the splendid local scenery. An unusual feature of this ‘tour’ for a stage carriage service is a pre-recorded commentary activated by the driver pointing out places and points of interest. The bus used is Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro200 MX14 FUG which is seen in Rothbury with Steve Hurst at the wheel. (Not only do I recommend the services of Spirit Buses but I also wholeheartedly recommend the products of Greenwell Bakery whose shop is visible in the background. On Saturdays they sell bread baked with Hobgoblin Beer!)

In the past United Automobile Services had a small garage in Rothbury which I read was located where the Veterinary Surgery now is, the gap between the houses on the right.

Alexander Dennis Enviro200D MX14 FUG was on its way from the garage to Thropton at the start of its day. It was new to Ace Travel of Aintree, Liverpool in March 2014. From Thropton it would then work the 0745 service 15 via Rothbury to Alnwick serving the bus station (0815) then continuing via the town centre to Willowburn Retail Park (0825) and Cawledge Business Park (by the A1) (0830) on the eastern side of the town.
