MacKenzie Bus Line (Nova Scotia)

Saturday 5 September 1992 – MacKenzie Bus Line (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) 22, a 1963 MCI MC4 Courier Challenger and 24, a 1966 MCI MC5A Courier Challenger. Coach 22 adorned the cover of the MacKenzie timetable leaflet for a record 21 years (1966-1987). (Ref 171-18)

Saturday 5 September 1992 (approx. 1100) – MacKenzie Bus Line coaches parked at the garage in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. Both are MCI Courier Challengers. This design of body was purchased by MacKenzie for 13 years between 1963 and 1976 as MC4 (#22 in 1964); MC5A (#23-27 one each year 1965-1969); and MC5B (#28 in 1972/#29 in 1973 and 30/31 in 1976). I cannot identify the coach on the left but the one on the right is coach 28. When new it had the same type of rooftop mounted amber lights as the coach on the left but here it features the later style of lights. The new style lights appear to have been fitted as a result of damage during its life because in a rear shot it had the larger round type lights as on earlier models. The smaller and rectangular fittings first appeared on coaches 30/31 delivered in 1976. (Ref 171-21)

Saturday 5 September 1992 (approx. 1100) – Seen from the car whilst heading down Aberdeen Road in Bridgewater (Nova Scotia) is MacKenzie Bus Line 29, a 1973 MCI MC5B Courier Challenger, which was just arriving in its home town when working the 0900 Halifax to Yarmouth trip 12. The bridge spanning the LeHave River stands ahead of us. (Ref 171-01)

Saturday 5 September 1992 (approx. 1100) – Passengers boarding MacKenzie Bus Line (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) 29 at the company office at 210 York Street in Bridgewater. This was the 0900 Halifax-Yarmouth trip 12, an overall journey which is approx. 220 miles taking 5 hours 55 minutes. (Ref 171-07)

It was working the 0900 Halifax-Yarmouth trip 12, an overall journey which is approx. 220 miles taking 5 hours 55 minutes. (Ref 171-13)

Saturday 5 September 1992 (approx. 1100) – MacKenzie Bus Line (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) 29 outside the company office at 210 York Street in Bridgewater ready to continue on its way when working the 0900 Halifax-Yarmouth trip 12, an overall journey which is approx. 220 miles taking 5 hours 55 minutes. A new driver had taken over here for the run through to Yarmouth. (Ref 171-12)

Saturday 5 September 1992 (approx. 1100) - MacKenzie Bus Line (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) 29 seen outside the company office at 210 York Street in Bridgewater when working the 0900 Halifax-Yarmouth trip 12. The overall journey is approx. 220 miles taking 5 hours 55 minutes. There are a number of parcels on the pavement being shipped on the service. The carriage of parcels and such items providing regular additional revenue on inter-city coach services. (Ref 171-04)

Saturday 5 September 1992 (approx. 1100) – After re-fuelling and a check over, MacKenzie Bus Line (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) 29 leaves the company garage at the corner of York Street and Victoria Road in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia continuing en route to Yarmouth when working the 0900 Halifax-Yarmouth trip 12. The overall journey is approx. 220 miles taking 5 hours 55 minutes. My friend and kindly host for this trip, Paul Leger, is standing on the forecourt. (Ref 171-15)

Thursday 10 September 1992 (around 1200) – The passing of two MacKenzie Bus Line (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) coaches on the western side of Liverpool. Coach 29 in the photograph was working the 0915 service from Yarmouth to Halifax trip 13. The photograph was taken from the front seat of coach number 30 working the 0900 Halifax-Yarmouth trip 12. Both were MCI MC5B Courier Challengers, 29 dating from 1973 and 30 from 1976. (Ref 178-10)

MacKenzie Bus Line Halifax to Yarmouth timetable effective 1 June 1991. I travelled on trip 12 on Thursday 10 September 1992.

MacKenzie Bus Line tickets. The large white ticket was issued by a driver to a passenger that boarded the coach at Rhodes Corner for a journey into Bridgewater (although the punches on the right reflect the opposite). The fare was $3.50. The yellow ticket was issued in the Halifax terminal for a journey from Halifax to Liverpool and was part of a multi page carbonised set.

It was a 1976 MCI MC5B Courier Challenger. My friend and kindly host for this trip, Paul Leger, is in the shot. Paul has been the Chairman of the Bus History Association for over 40 years.
