Saturday 2 September 1989 – Whippet Coaches E693 PAY, a Plaxton Paramount 3200 bodied Volvo B10M new in April 1989, seen loading at the express coach stands in Drummer Street, Cambridge.
With holidaymakers suitcases visible in the rear locker the coach was collecting passengers for the range of holiday services operated by the company at the time. These included service C (Portsmouth, Southsea and Bognor Regis); E (Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough); and F (Norwich and Great Yarmouth). The passengers were first conveyed to Huntingdon where some would change to other coaches for their main journey. These, along with services A (to Kent resorts), D (to Sussex resorts) and G (to Hunstanton) would all leave Huntingdon at 0830. The latter three services would pick-up in Cambridge at 0910 on their way southwards. The strange thing about the Great Yarmouth service was that the passengers first travelled west (to Huntingdon) before travelling east to their destination. This made for a journey of four hours compared with only three hours by National Express.
