Tuesday 17 June 2025 (1003) – Stephensons of Essex 801 (EU24 LWT), an Enviro400D new in July 2024, departing Newmarket (Guineas bus station) working the 1000 to Bury St. Edmunds/West Suffolk Hospital. Parked on the left is Star Cabs, Haverhill HX66 ENL, a Peugeot Boxer mini-bus. Star Cabs works a few rural services into Newmarket using mini-buses. This one carries a taxi plate so maybe not licensed as a ‘PCV’?

Tuesday 17 June 2025 (1033) – Stephensons of Essex 621 (EU23 BZL), seen in Fred Archer Way, Newmarket just after leaving The Guineas Bus Station) bound for Cambridge on service 12. It is an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro400 bodied Scania N250UD new in March 2023. In the background are two other Stephensons buses. The single decker is 469 (SN66 WLL), an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro200D that had been new to Dunn Line, Nottingham in November 2016, with an unidentified East Lancs Omnidekka bodied Scania parked behind.

Tuesday 17 June 2025 (0959) – Stephensons of Essex 469 (SN66 WLL), an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro200D that had been new to Dunn Line, Nottingham in November 2016, parked in Fred Archer Way, Newmarket. Interesting sign in the driver’s windscreen which I missed at the time.

Tuesday 17 June 2025 (1027) – The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) is embarking on a franchising model for the region’s bus services. Bus services are branded ‘Tiger’ and have a ‘T’ prefixed service number. One of the services introduced on Tuesday 27 May 2025 in East Cambridgeshire was the T4 (Newmarket-Burwell-Reach-Swaffham Prior-Lode-Bottisham-Fulbourn-Addenbrooke’s Hospital) which is contracted to Stagecoach East. Stagecoach East 19587 (AE10 BWY), an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro400 bodied Trident new in April 2010, seen in Fred Archer Way, Newmarket arriving on the 0850 service T4 from Addenbrooke’s Hospital (due at 1017). It would return to Addenbrookes at 1040.

Having set down at the bus station the service continues via Newmarket Hospital to Willie Snaith Road (Kings Court near Tesco). Tuesday 17 June 2025 (0955) – The Guineas Bus Station in Newmarket is a compact affair comprising just two nose-in bays with the exit lane providing a third stop. Mulleys Motorways GO07 DRM had worked the 0900 service 312 from Bury St. Edmunds (due here 0945) and was now returning to Bury St. Edmunds on the 0950 service. With the nose-in bays already occupied it had to take on passengers in the exit lane. The nose-in bay alongside is occupied by Stephensons of Essex 462 (YX11 CTO), an Enviro200D new June 2011, working the 0958 service 112 to Ely. The second nose-in bay is empty but will soon be occupied by 801 (EU24 LWT), an Enviro400D new in July 2024, which was just arriving on service 12 from Cambridge. It would then work the 1000 to Bury St. Edmunds/West Suffolk Hospital. The Mulleys bus is a Scania K230UB OmniLink that was new as a Scania demonstrator in July 2007 registered YN07 LHO. Following its demonstration period it first passed to Astons of Kempsey and then to DRM of Bromyard where it took on its present registration. After operation with DRM it passed to Shaws of Maxey before joining Mulleys during 2022. I recall during one of my regular duties on service 312 many years ago that had a tight turnround at about 1700, always getting stuck here because a very busy Stagecoach service always blocked the exit road when taking on hoards of homeward bound passengers. I had to wait until that bus departed before I could get on my way. It was really most annoying.

Tuesday 17 June 2025 (1012) – Star Cabs, Haverhill YB17 KFY, a Ford Transit new in May 2017, seen in Newmarket (Guineas bus station) Star Cabs operate a few rural services into Newmarket using mini-buses and this one had worked the Tuesday only service 46A from Haverhill at 0900. The route takes in quite a number if intermediate villages travelling via Linton, Balsham, West Wratting, West Wickham, Weston Green, Weston Colville, Willingham Green, Brinkley, Burrough Green and Dullingham, In Newmarket it sets down in the High Street, The Guineas Bus Station, Hospital and Kings Court near Tesco/Studlands Park). The return journey starts at 1302 from Studlands calling at The Guineas at 1310 arriving back in Haverhill at 1430.

The latter provides services to rural communities devoid of a regular bus service. WA10 GVM is a Peugeot Boxer (new April 2010) which is typical of this charity’s mini-bus fleet. It was seen in Fred Archer Way, Newmarket.
