Stagecoach East Volvo/MCV electric buses

Monday 15 May 2023 (1056) – The first of the thirty MCV bodied Volvo BZL electric double deckers began to arrive at Stagecoach East during April 2023 and commenced regular service on the Cambridge Park & Ride services on Sunday 14 May. Fleet numbers are to be 86001-86030. 86002 (BV23 NRE) was seen in Downing Street working service PR3 to Trumpington. The five different Park & Ride services had each been operated by buses in their own individual colour. The new electric buses all wear the same livery with the colour of the site used for the characters in the destination display.

Thursday 14 November 2024 (1052) – Downing Street, Cambridge seen from the coach. One of the thirty Stagecoach East MCV bodied Volvo BZL electric double deckers delivered during April 2023 is at the departure point of Park & Ride service PR3 to Trumpington. The photograph was taken from my seat on board Ambassador Travel 304 (BV72 XFA), a Caetano Levante III bodied Scania K410 new in November 2022, working the 0750 National Express service 727 from Great Yarmouth to Stansted Airport. I took a ride on this coach today from Mildenhall to Trumpington Park and Ride (Cambridge) in order to sample a ride on this type of coach. I travelled back on two local buses, the first being Stagecoach East 21234 (AE12 CJV) working the 1106 Busway service B to St. Ives followed by Stephensons 802 (EU24 LWV) working the 1218 service 12 from Cambridge to Newmarket which continued as the 1300 service 16 to Bury St. Edmunds/West Suffolk Hospital via Mildenhall.

Thursday 14 November 2024 (1209) – Stagecoach East buses are now recognised as ‘safe spaces’ for those in fear of abuse under a partnership launched in October 2024 with Cambridgeshire Constabulary and the Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre. One of the changing displays on the buses shows the message ‘This bus is a safe-space’. Two of the thirty MCV bodied Volvo BZL electric double deckers new in April 2023 are seen here working Park & Ride services in Cambridge.
