Sunday 26 September 2004 – ‘Showbus’ bus and coach rally at Duxford, Cambridgeshire, UK. Entry number 231: Former United Counties Omnibus Co Ltd 450 (VV 5696) entered by the Chelveston Preservation Society. The chassis is a 1937 Bristol JOG5 which was rebodied by Eastern Coachworks in 1949.

Entry number 251: 2236 (RNA 236J), a 1971 Daimler Fleetline with a Park Royal body built to the ‘Mancunian’ style originally designed by the Manchester Corporation Transport Department. MCTD was a trailblazer in the field of one-man operation on double-decker buses and in 1968 placed its first ‘Mancunian’ in service. The following year (1969) MCTD was absorbed into the SELNEC PTE* which then became the Greater Manchester PTE (trading as Greater Manchester Transport). 2236 carries GMT fleetnames and livery with the ‘NN’ garage code for Northenden in South Manchester. *South East Lancashire North East Cheshire Passenger Transport Executive

Entry number 928: Seymour’s Travel of Harlow LIL5072, the striking Duple 425 although this one has had a Plaxton Paragon/Panther style front panel fitted below the windscreen. It was new to Alder Valley South in August 1987 as their 1205 (E205 EPB). It carried registration YSU 572 along the way.

(Entry no.95) On 13 September 2004 National Express upgraded its 420 Birmingham-London service branding it as ‘NXL Shuttle’. Fourteen striking Irizar Century PB bodied Scania K114EB4 fitted with 49 black leather seats and other refinements like plug ins for computers etc were added to the fleet specifically for the service. The most direct trips over the 120 mile run take 2 hours 40 minutes. NXL9 (YN04 GPF) was on display at Duxford
