HFF: Bus Stop and the Iron Bridge at Ironbridge - 19 Apr 2023 (P1150255)

Wednesday 19 April 2023 (1519) – A brightly coloured bus stop sign seen at The Square, Ironbridge.

In the background is the world’s first bridge constructed from iron erected in 1779 to span the River Severn. It has given the town of Ironbridge its name. Abraham Darby pioneered the smelting process at his foundries in nearby Coalbrookdale using coke and thereafter the use of cast iron became widely used in the building of bridges, aqueducts and buildings.
