Ambassador Travel 109 (G109 HNG) in Mildenhall – 11 Feb 1995 (251-09)

Ambassador Travel 109 (G109 HNG) in Mildenhall – 11 Feb 1995 (251-09)
Saturday 11 February 1995 - The laying of a new water pipeline right through the centre of Mildenhall created quite a few traffic hold ups (the exact same scene was to be repeated in 2020 when a fibre optic line was laid along the same course!).

Ambassador Travel had been the contracted operator for the National Express service 495 from Cromer to London for many years. 109 (G109 HNG), a Plaxton Paramount bodied Leyland Tiger new in October 1989, was seen threading its way through the roadworks just after making its last pickup at King Street when working the 0700 departure from the Norfolk resort. It would then be making the non-stop run to the suburbs of east London.

The lorry on the left operated by A de Boer B.V. of Aalsmeer, The Netherlands was making one of its regular deliveries of flowers to Lyn’s Floral Design shop in Police Station Square. No doubt today it was carrying extra supplies in readiness for Valentine’s Day. There were two very amenable drivers that made these regular deliveries and with whom I would have a word when out and about. I once encountered one of them at Grantham Service Area on the A1 when travelling with my daughter and we were given a nice bunch of flowers as a treat.
