Preserved former London Transport AEC/Park Royal Routemasters

After the upper deck of RM1368 (368 CLT) was damaged and destroyed in December 1973 the vehicle was rebuilt in single deck form and used for experimental purposes at London Transport’s Chiswick Works

RM1400 carried registration 400 CLT from new until the end of 1997 when it was re-registered KGJ 339A, the original registration presumably sold to a private user. Some time later (late 2018/early 209?) it received a more appropriate registration number very close to that it once had. This was 398 CLT which had in the interim years been carried by a number of different Arriva operated vehicles.

It is always difficult to date London’s Routemasters because of the body swap routine but these two were new circa 1963.

Another interesting fact, and the reason why these vehicles were parked together, is that RM1400 has body B1368 which was new as RM1368.
Before the fire, RM1368 had one overhaul and emerged with body B1321.
