DSCF5214 Eagles Coaches yard at Castle Acre - 20 Oct 2018

DSCF5214 Eagles Coaches yard at Castle Acre - 20 Oct 2018
Saturday 20 October 2018 (1328) – Eagles Coaches yard in Castle Acre, Norfolk. Martin James Eagle began a horse and carriage service from Castle Acre to Kings Lynn in 1882 and the present day business is run by his Great Grandson.

In this view are four coaches with Van Hool Alizee bodywork and two Plaxton Premieres. I believe all are on Volvo chassis.

Left to right: BAZ 6527 (ex K49 TER); GRZ 5752; E7 GLE; YXI 6421; P521 PRL (VLT 177); and P2 CAP.

People will tell you that coaches can't make it into Castle Acre because Bailey's Gate is too narrow, but here's a coach company operating out of there! Google Maps suggests there's a back way out of the village. I guess the village doesn't want too many coaches operating on those narrow back lanes, though. The Eagles website shows one of their buses going through Bailey's Gate, but I strongly suspect Photoshop.

Their website is very refreshing, by the way. It features a very frank account of their history.

I saw their photograph of the coach at the Bailey Gate. The gate features a vehicle width limit of 6' 6" and the sign can be seen alongside the 8' 2.5" coach!
