DSCF2726 Go North East 6093 (NL63 YHW) in Newcastle - 2 Jun 2018

Saturday 2 June 2018 (0924) – Go North East 6093 (NL63 YHW) seen about to cross the High Level Bridge linking Newcastle-upon-Tyne with Gateshead bound for Sunderland on service 56 branded as the ‘fab fifty six’. It is a Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B9TL new in December 2013 that is allocated to Deptford garage in Sunderland.

The bridge was opened by Queen Victoria in 1849 and carries railway tracks on the upper level which can be seen above right emerging from Newcastle Central Station. The lower level features pedestrian paths either side of a roadway now restricted to use by local buses and taxis travelling southbound only. When constructed the roadway was adequate for two way carriage and cart traffic.
