Sworders B437 RJU in Aston - 17 Mar 1998

Tuesday 17 March 1998 (approx. 0800) - C W Sworder and Sons Limited latterly operated a fleet of mainly school and contract vehicles from its base in the Hertfordshire village of Walkern. B437 RJU was a Reeve Burgess bodied Dodge G13 new circa 1985 to the United States Air Force which was seen on the car park of the Rose and Crown pub in Aston working school service 889 to the Buntingford schools. It was always quite busy around this time – three buses and untold numbers of parental cars. Another school bus operated by Herbert’s of Shefford working to the Stevenage schools had just departed. The remaining passengers were waiting for the 0800 service 390 operated by The Shires working the 0735 Hertford to Stevenage. After all this activity the scene went totally quiet but not altogether deserted. A boy emerged after hiding in the hedgerow of a field opposite the pub. He was playing truant from school today.
