Okénite sur Gyrolite

Okénite sur Gyrolite
Echantillon de 8 cm de Poonah - Indes
En agrégats sphériques de cristaux en aiguilles , associée ici avec de la gyrolite verte
La okénite est un phyllosilicate de calcium hydraté le plus souvent blanc mais peut être vert ou bleu
Ces boules toutes douces sont hélas très fragiles

Issue de filons hydrothermaux , on la trouve en inclusion dans des vacuoles ou des fissures de roches volcaniques , associée à d'autres zéolites : apophyllite , gyrolite , prehnite, heulandite, calcite, stilbite

My first impression of okenite when I came across it at the quarry is that it looked like some sort of biological infection, like mould on bread.

It is associated with hollow cavities (vugs/geodes) that formed within the basaltic (volcanic) rock of the Deccan traps millions of years ago. Pune is just 120 km from where I live, so it it is not so surprising that I chance upon these rocks in nature.
