Moray Coastal Trail: Findhorn to Burghead 8 miles, 06 April 2019

We tackled part of the Moray Coastal route this morning, the eight miles from Findhorn Bay to Burghead, site of a Pictish settlement. It was a kind of dreich morning which caused someone who had been invited to join us to bail out, as he was frightened of getting wet! In the event it did not rain, but neither did we see the sun. With the tide coming in, for most of the route we used the pathway through the woods, skirting the former RAF base of Kinloss, and passing many reminders of its role in WWII, with various gun emplacements, and reinforced bunkers still in evidence along the way, as well as the anti-tank blockades on stretches of the beach, no longer in their parade ground ranks but scattered haphazardly now by the powers of the sea.
Lunch was in the Findhorn Bakehouse: Eggs Benedict and grilled salmon, with salad; well-deserved fuel for two tired walkers!
