O Say can you see by the dawn's early light.....

O Say can you see by the dawn's early light.....
(From "The Defence of Fort McHenry" a poem by Scott Key written in 1814, and incorporated into the US National Anthem).
This morning's pre-dawn display was up to the usual high standards, but the sun never actually appeared - it vanished while still below below the horizon into a stonking great bank of cloud! Some superb lenticular (Spell Check feels these should be testicular???) clouds to the south and west - my favourites of all the cloud formations, these lozenge shaped clouds in layers are beloved of glider pilots and soaring golden eagles as they are formed by moist warm air flowing over mountain ranges - standing waves. (I can still remember some of my meteorology for pilots!)
