das Leben der Amish-People hat mich sehr fasziniert, besonders durch den Film "Der einzige Zeuge" ("Witness") mit Harrison Ford und Kelly McGillis, den ich zuvor gesehen habe

Very nice souvenir in blackandwhite. Most summerhouses in Sweden have that kind of toilet, but nowadays normal toiletpaper. :-)

wahrscheinlich sind die schwedischen Sommerhäuser auf Steinen/Felsen gebaut worden, und es kann kein Abwasserrohr oder System verlegt werden;

Oh Christel what a memory for you ... we have followed many of the Mennonite carriages when visiting the Mennonite areas in this country. We have a Mennonite store in the next little town over and one of these carriages sits outside to let you know where the shop is. :) xx Great for the challenge.

Great idea and photo! Amish life can vary a lot between settlements! Many have conventional modern toilets and plumbing.

Not in the house. Their basic belief is not to be directly connected to sinners and if you don't belong to the church ... you're a sinner. Power may run to the barn for the milking machines. The telephone may be on a pole at the end of the driveway. Their business web sites are usually run by someone else, but they have one. A lot of this is controlled by the elders of their church and can vary a lot between churches. Church districts are basically the distance a horse can travel in a day. The Amish are generally not opposed to technology ... they just don't believe in owning it. Some of the boys may even have motorcycles until they are old enough to join the church, but again that varies with the church.
