Legend has it that a lady of Roche-Pichemer, Catherine-without-Pity, was a "mean lady". Among other misdeeds, she is accused of having tied together a man and an ox and, to see which one would survive the other, to let them die of hunger! She has been condemned for centuries to nocturnal races on a chariot of fire during the winter nights ...

Merci Nouchet. D'après wikipédia, en Mayenne on dénombre 279 édifices seigneuriaux, dont cinq châteaux-forts.... pas mal pour un seul département, n'est-ce pas ?

Thanks Peter, that's an idea, I should ask them if they are interested in.... On the other side, this is not a famous chateau from the Loire Valley, there aren't so much tourists here!

Danke Wilhelm, wir sind öfters hin, haben sie aber nie auf ihrer Feuerkutsche gesehen ;-)) Ich liebe diese alten Texte, und da es hier viele Burgen und Schlösser gibt, hat fast jedes Dorf irgendeine interessante, wenn auch nicht immer gruselige Geschichte zu erzählen....

A beautiful castle and well maintained grounds Christa. What a gruesome tale, - I hope there is no truth in it but the legends that surround some of these castles and grand buildings are quite fascinating. You wonder if they are told to frighten people and keep them off their property! A well composed image, - I link the chain across it, - nice effect.

Thanks Carol. I think legends are stories that have been made up with a background of truth. Perhaps here was really a mean lady and people invented it with the purpose to make the story more interesting or convincing, or to teach a lesson (like knowing right from wrong), or perhaps they really wanted a bad end for this lady!!
