Coldbackie

Coldbackie beach pictured from above, just off the A836. Coldbackie is a crofting township in Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands. The land that can be seen at the top of the image is, I believe the island of Eilean Nan Ron, meaning island of the seals and in fact around 350 seal pups are born there each year. The island is uninhabited.

The climb down to Colbackie beach is quite steep but it is a beautiful hidden gem with views of the Rabbit Islands just out of the image on the left.

Thank you very much Percy. Maybe it is beacuse the way down is quite steep but there a lot of beaches in Scotland that are beautiful and with hardly anyone on them. It is part of the attraction for me, - the peace, the solitude and the beauty of the area.

Thank you very much Misou. The deserted beach is a gem and the island at the rear of the photo, Eilean nan Ron used to have some inhabitants but has been uninhabited since 1938, so it is a place of safety for the seaals.

Erich the beaches are so beautiful up there, often with white sands and hardly anyone on them.
It never fails to amaze me but it adds to the wondeful feeling of peace and solitude. On one of those beaches you could be almost anywhere in teh world. You know what I mean as you have been there and enjoyed the area.
