cool - i wonder why they want to attract attention to their eyes with that red (or maybe it is to imply they are much bigger than they are?).

Thanks for the kind comments raingirl, always welcome. As with most male birds I imagine the bright colours are to attract the ladies! I have to admit when they are feeding on my garage roof the pheasant is the only bird the the crows/rooks are afraid of. This may have something to do with the colour around the eyes, or more likely their very large clawed feet!!
