Ein Russischer Bär - A Jersey tiger - PiPs
Manche bezeichnen den abgebildeten tagaktiven Nachtfalter Euplagia quadripunctaria auch als "Russischen Bär" in Anspielung auf die sehr stark behaarten Raupen. Heute verwendet man eher den Artnamen Spanische Flagge, weil die Färbung des Schmetterlings von einem farbenfrohen Rot und einem Weiß-Gelb gekennzeichnet ist und somit den Farben der Spanischen Nationalflagge ähnelt. Eine Besonderheit: Aus den aufgesaugten Pflanzensäften können sie Giftstoffe herausfiltern und in ihre Körpergewebe einlagern. Die auffällige rote Farbe der Hinterflügel, die sie bei Störung zeigen, dient wohl als Warnfarbe.
Diese Schmetterlingsart findet man relativ häufig und sie gilt im Bestand als ungefährdet.

The conspicuous red color of the hind wings, which they show when disturbed, probably serves as a warning color.
This butterfly species is relatively common and its population is not considered endangered.
