Ein Igelkopf ganz nah - A coneflower very close

At the height of summer, different varieties of coneflowers (Echinacea spec.) bloom in many gardens. They have been given their Latin name because the conspicuously spiky receptacular bracts (here orange-red) clearly overhang the tubular flowers. The Latin genus name Echinacea is derived from the Greek word for sea urchin. The plant genus Echinacea is native to North America. Its healing properties are well known and are also used in modern medicine.
