Stars of the catch 06 June 2014.
New species for our patio trap :)
These are bigger and darker than the other 'kitten' moths. Here tucking his face down into a more normal resting position, the antennae will fold in under the wings and just his feet will stick out.

Puss Moth Male

|
|
|
Stars of the catch for 29 May 2014.
Not the usual resting position for this moth, the larger the moth the more time they take to warm the muscles for flight.
So they open like this then vibrate for a bit before taking off.
You can see through the lower ends of his wings, this is actually normal for this species.

One of our larger moths, this is not the usual view, you can see that furry body. This is a male. You can see those huge antenna, and the lovely color of of the veins in the wings.

Sussex Moth Group, Hastings Branch impromtu moth event at Guestling Wood
Stars of the catch 25 May, 2014
One of my favorite moths, the colors, the resting posture (not shown here) and that big eye'd face. The moth is named for its caterpillar which looks very lobster like, I've not seen them yet.
