Standing stately atop a small hill in Brightling Park is the Greek, or perhaps more properly, Rotunda Temple.
My second favorite of the Fuller Follies we visited, as evidenced by several photos :)

It was suggested by Sir Humphry Repton in his plans for the garden and is thought to have been designed by Sir Robert Smirke.

The Temple is approximately 25 feet (7.62 m) tall and was built around 1810.

The dome from a distance looks to be shinning in the light of day, but as you get closer you see its painted light blue.

5. Temple Lets Go Inside

The doors and windows on this building are in amazingly good condition, although they may have been replaced since it was built the hardware appears to be original and suggests that the windows and door are as well.
This door stands about 10" high.

Evidence of many a visitor in more modern times although this Folly is on private land, and does require that you get permission to get inside and up close.

It has been said that he entertained lady friends here...perhaps even held orgies. Others speculate that he held card parties in the temple and gambled with his cronies for very high stakes.
I think he just enjoyed a enclosure to admire the 360' views from this position in East Sussex.

These carved stones lay behind the Temple in an S shape. The fields are now filled with a riding obstacle course for jumping and the stones seem to have been incorporated into this.
