Thank you both! These are quite the odd looking moth :)
We use pots, ones made for insect collection say from Anglian Lepidopterist Supply, and I put them into the fridge for an hour or sometimes a bit more. This doesn't hurt them, for anyone readying this, when they get cool their metabolism slows well down and they rest, when I have photographed them I ease them back into the pots to warm back up and then release them.
As for the backgrounds, there are loads of moths I have trouble photographing, some just wont sit nice no matter how cool they are, I have a few tricks I use. Maybe an article is in order...lol
