Axel Eiflinger
Blaue Blumen Busch
Pet bottles, garden wire and rods, mortar tub, concrete, 2023
Plastic pollutes the environment, but is increasingly being recycled. The work of Heidelberg-based artist Axel Eiflinger demonstrates aesthetic upcycling. Over a hundred blue water bottles made from recycled PET have been transformed into lily-like flowers using scissors and fire. They are joined by leaves made from green PET water bottles.
Surrounded by the blue rain of this plant and within sight of the Museum Blau with its real bluebell tree, a third tree or bush now presents itself with blue flowers. This is decorative, but also a meaningful reminder of the flower of Romanticism, an era that anticipated ecological thinking over 200 years ago.
