The Priory, Vicarage Road, Kings Heath, Birmingham (Demolished)

The Priory, Vicarage Road, Kings Heath, Birmingham (Demolished)
The Priory was the home of the Cartland family (brass founders) , one of whom was the novelist Barbara Cartland.

By 1904 suburban Birmingham had reached the borders of The Priory's park , the house survived however until the 1940s when its last occupier Major Howard Cartland died. The Priory was originally called Bleak House, and the building illustrated in this pic was constructed c1845 by James Cartland to replace a c17th house.

No I rather like this house, these pics came from the same long closed Nottingham junk shop as those of the Empress Eugene at Farnborough Hill. Its difficult to find things like this these days

I've had some of these old pics for years, one of the joys of scanning and uploading them is that I get to do a little research on the net. These came from a second hand shop on Mansfield Road in Nottingham when I was a teenager (a long time ago!) I wish I had brought more.
