Denver, South Park, and Pacific Railroad, Jefferson station

Denver, South Park, and Pacific Railroad, Jefferson station
In 1879 a new town of Jefferson sprang up as the narrow gauge steamed down across the north end of the park. The railroad built there a wye and a water tank, a frame depot which also served as living quarters for the stationmaster, and a two-story section house. Shortly the new town acquired post office and express office and the population reached 300 by 1881. Stock pens were added for loading cattle and sheep from the ranches in the northeast corner of the park.
