ABOUT 200 competitors are expected to take part in this year’s Wybunbury Fig Pie Wakes.
The event, which takes place on Saturday, starts at 1pm with the first of the 200 competitors rolling their specially made pies from outside the Swan Inn down Main Road at 3pm to see how far they can travel.
This unique annual village event is believed to date back at least 200 years. It fizzled out in about 1920 but was revived in 1993 and is now a highlight in the village calendar.
The winner of the adult race receives a cup to retain for a year, a bottle of port and cheese, while the winners of the two children’s races receive a cup and vouchers.
