Chicago - Calder's Flamingo - 1986

Chicago - Calder's Flamingo - 1986
Flamingo, created by American artist Alexander Calder, is a 16 m tall sculpture located in the Federal Plaza in front of the Kluczynski Federal Building. Calder's signature on the sculpture indicates it was constructed in 1973. Flamingo weighs 50 tons, is composed of steel, and is "vermilion" in color. The structure is a prominent example of the "constructivist movement", first popularized in Russia in the early 20th century.

I love the colour version. It was quite ahead of it's time in design I would think.

Coloured version for me. The vivid brightness against the monochrome buildings is part of its appeal as both an artistic and a political statement. To me, the artwork is wonderfully robust.
