rock avalanche
The rock avalanche came down from the valley in the background on 25th July - from far more upwards as you can see here - and then rushed to the other side of the valley. In the foreground you see the deposits after the desaster and you can find a little man for size comparison. The deposits were approx. 500 m long, 350 m wide and up to 30 m high. The second image was not taken by myself, but from a drone. The rectangular basin in the upper part is 125 m long. The third image shows the assumed path of the avalanche in the upper part. After the avalanche the Mestiachala river was dammed up for a short time, then broke through and caused a giant debris flow event downstream.
