Pico Viejo
It is the second highest peak of Tenerife and the Canary Islands (after the Teide) with a height of 3135 m and a huge crater of approximately 720 metres in diameter. It erupted in 1798, and it is estimated that it ejected around 12 million m³ of lava over three months forming a black colored surface, which is different from the rest of the volcano area, which are known as the Teide noses. . you might be interested in the volcano just north of me that is active and erupted in 1980 - Mt St Helens. i was luckily to the south of the eruption as the mountain mostly blew toward the northeast - that didn't save us from a very thick layer of ash, however, that lingered in the city for years. while most of it sunk into the earth over a few months, one would still notice black grit on the windowsills for around a couple years. here's a link to a Smithsonian video about it:
