The "Old Axe Smith" in Waidring (Tyrol, Austria)
~~~~~
Die "Alte Hackenschmiede" in Waidring (Tirol, Österreich)
"Ursprünglich diente dieses Gebäude als Wohn-, Bauern- und Handwerkshaus. Nach dem Neubau des Bauernhauses um 1902 wurde das Gebäude verkleinert, wobei Stallungen und Remise verschwanden, und erhielt sein heutiges Aussehen. Wie der Name schon sagt, wurden hier bis in die 70er Jahre „Hacken“, also Äxte und sonstiges Handwerkzeug für die damalige „Holzindustrie“ hergestellt. Im Betrieb arbeiteten zeitweise ein Meister (Hackenschmied), ein Gesell und ein Lehrling. In Kleinserie wurden „Ziegelmaschinen“ und Wandersägen zum Schneiden vom Bauholz gefertigt. Für das Betreiben des Schmiedehammers, einer Ständerbohrmaschine und Drehmaschine wurde die Wasserkraft benutzt. Diese Maschinen wurden mittels Transmissionen über das Wasserrad angetrieben. Heute treibt das Wasserrad einen Stromgenerator mit 5KW Leistung an. Der aktive Betrieb der Schmiedewerkstätte wurde später aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen eingestellt. Die letzten in der Schmiede gefertigten Arbeiten, kunstvoll verzierte Schmiedekreuze, sind heute noch auf dem Friedhof von Waidring zu bewundern."
