Blast Furnace
An ancient blast furnace, situated in Vordernberg (Styria, Austria). Since its construction in the year 1631 it served its function to make raw iron out of iron ore and charcoal for more than 260 years - until 1899. A big water wheel, which isn't preseserved any longer, moved the fan, which blew the required air into the furnace. The picture shows one of the 14 furnaces, which is preserved. It is called Radwerk X ("Rad" = wheel, "werk"=plant, "X"= No.10).
