Der Nebel entsteht dadurch, dass an der sonnenbeschienenen Ostwand Wasser verdunstet, das mit der Thermik aufsteigt und in der Höhe wieder kondensiert. Bei trockener Hochdruckwetterlage und Ostwind ist dieses Phänomen eher mäßig. Bei insgesamt feuchterer Luft können sich allerdings auch gewaltige Quellwolken bilden, die den Aufenthalt dort oben ziemlich unheimlich machen.
