I do not want to open a discussion with my answer.
Just the information: There are people everywhere on earth who believe in God and gods and pagans, all of whom I accept and tolerate. South Tyrol is very strongly influenced by the Christian faith and it is still lived today, just as it is in many regions of Germany, for example in Bavaria.
This bench with the cross is on a pilgrimage path that leads to the mountain Heilig Kreuz Kofel. The path is often very steep and some pilgrims may need a break. All people, whether believers or pagans, should be tolerant of each other.
Sitting on a bench with a cross behind me, I don't have a bad feeling, but with some people it would make me uncomfortable.
I'm just surprised that pagans visit churches on holiday and take photos. They should actually avoid these buildings. Many people should also not walk the Way of St James to Santiago de Compostela.
My request is to accept people as they are, whether they are believers or not.
With a clear conscience, there is no need to be afraid of a wooden cross.

I fully agree with you but the point is religions don't give the example for tolerance. They impose and are proselitistic, specially the two younger ones of he Book... as per Jewish people proselitism do not exist.
I am not baptized and not believer in any god: in my youth I was beaten every day by my teacher on primary school because I didn't have Maria on my name and was just Isabel. When I was captured later by political police it was a catholic priest who gave us.
European culture is mostly Catholic indeed, but even if nowadays it is fashionable to ask mercy for the horrors of the past nothing will erase what this religion has destroyed: Jewish people persecuted, tortured, burnt alive, evangelization in America and Africa (less success in Asia) destroying cultures, civilizations, ways of life in the name of a good god????!!!!
The world would be a lot better without religions.
About your last sentence:
- A clear conscience is when you do the right thing because you think right, not because you are threatened to displease a god and go to an hell-place in an invented after life.
- When I see a cross I feel all the negative energy this religion brought to ny ancestors and to me.
To close the debate on my side I respect people beliefs but this should be between each one and his own belief, not imposed to all like it is, like we see here those days with the JMJ, and the "apology" to those who were victims of priests sexual apetites, once more Jesuistic hypocrisy on the move.
Don't forget that if there is a god he didn't create religions: men did in his name to dominate and extort money from the people, just that: power and money. Does that have anything to do with what they preach???

I agree with you that the church has done a lot of injustice, and still does, be it child abuse and much more and this still tries to sweep under the carpet. I don't need a church and a service, because a schoolmate and I were beaten up by a priest and a catechist in school at the age of 10. But I accept all people no matter what god they believe in or none. When I visit a country I accept their way of life and show it with my pictures. This includes wayside crosses, churches inside and outside. If I do not accept this way of life of these people, I must not travel to their countries.

Agree with you.
I love romanic architecture, specially primitive one. But when I visit one I am very carefull not to enter if there is a service ongoing.
People are not always free in their beliefs and even if "in Rome do as Romans do" this is often not reciprocated...
