Traditional house of the Cham
A Cham house complex actually consists of 5 houses, which are arranged in a U-shape:
Sang lam - the house of the head of household
Sang ye - the usual house
Sang mayau - the neighbouring house
Sang ton - the upper house
Sang went - the kitchen
Sang lam - the house of the head of household
Traditionally, only noble families and religious dignitaries could own this type of house. It is the largest in the area, built with valuable wood and decorated with many carvings, the Cham gave it the name "fabulous horse". The roofing of the house is a special construction of two different layers / materials. The thick lower layer is a mixture of clay and straw, which serves as a fire and heat protection, above it a second roof of tiles.
PiP: Sang ye - the usual house
A particularly important house in this residential complex, as all the rituals of the great matriarchal family of the Cham are performed here.
A special feature of this house is that no rafter construction, tenon joints or nails are used.
The roof is covered with straw
