THE LAST BOOK

THE LAST BOOK
The last book tries to remember
the last time someone read it,
tries to remember if someone
has ever read it at all. The last book
isn't sure what it's about, because
it can't open its own pages, the
way you've never seen your
own organs, and the last book
has no other books to ask about
what it feals like to be read
because that's what it means
to be last, and the last book
doesn't even know that it's just
zeros and ones, hurtling through
space, sent into the universe
by people who died millenia
ago on a planet that's long since
been eaten by the sun it revolved
around. The last book still
thinks it's paper and ink
and bookboard and cloth,
and if anyone ever picks up the signal,
maybe it will be again.

O ÚLTIMO LIVRO

O último livro tenta lembrar-se
da última vez que alguém o leu
ou até se alguém
alguma vez o fez.
orbitou. O último livro ainda
pensa que é de papel e tinta
e cartão e pano,
e se algum dia alguém captar o sinal
poderá vir a sê-lo de novo.

o0o ;-))

I sit on the shelf and watch the world
go past me and I have stories untold
if only you knew what I did see
I think if I said you'd never believe me
but I have been here for many a year
listened to many who shed a tear
laughter sometimes and often not . . .
and I feel like a book that time forgot

Beijo!

The first book hides inside us, writing each day. We refuse to read it until it's taken away.

What you just said is profound; hope that, as the last book, its signal "sent into the Universe" might be picked up by someone, and "maybe it will be again".
