The Star Trek fan knows it for sure, and whoever deals with the series universe from time to time knows that traveling into the infinity of the universe is only possible with faster-than-light speed - otherwise you can hardly get off the place. So you need a warp drive, which is effectively depicted as a strip of different light colors in the film versions.

And there we are already with the perception: Of course an object races with improbable speed through the space - after earthly yardsticks. After all, the necessary "escape velocity" to leave Earth is already 11.2 km/s (25948.46 mph). But in relation to the seemingly infinite distances of space, it seems as if one would not get away from place.

Here we are now dealing with the reverse effect of perception. Long exposures and light-intensive objects in motion give the impression that a streetcar, for example, is faster than the light and thus draws a streak of its own light behind it or, at best, seems to dissolve into it.
