A ruin with sea view

07 Apr 2022 8 1 62
Brenton Point State Park - Budlong Stable Budlong Stable is a building ruin in Newport, RI on the Atlantic Ocean in Brenton Point State Park. The dilapidated carriage house and stables are the remains of the estate of copper magnate, author, collector, and noted Egyptologist Theodore M. Davis, purchased in 1915 by Mr. and Mrs. Milton J. Budlong of Providence. The Budlongs divorced in 1928. The house, in which the family never again resided, passed to Miss Frances Budlong. During World War II, anti-aircraft guns were placed around the house to house gun crews. The house, destroyed by vandalism in the 1950s, was set on fire in 1961 and demolished on May 25, 1963. © 2022 Arlequin Photographie

Budlong Stable

I find this ruin - even if it was "only" a stable - inspires stories - mysterious and mystical, as only Edgar Allan Poe could have written. This is perhaps also due to the old trees that surround the ruin and whose branches are slowly making their way into the building. Spontaneously, the scenery reminded me of "The Fall of the House of Usher". Man becomes carcass Home becomes catacomb And the dead Are but for a moment Motionless © 2022 Arlequin Photographie
