Central Park at last (for this day)
|
|
|
|
The Central Park is an urban park in New York City located between the Upper West and Upper East Sides of Manhattan. It is the fifth-largest park in the city, covering 843 acres (341 ha). It is the most visited urban park in the United States, with an estimated 42 million visitors annually as of 2016, and is the most filmed location in the world.
The Park is not as spectacular this time of year as it is during the warmer times of the year. It lacks the street performers, the musicians. But it radiates even more tranquility than usual, especially at this time of year. Disturbing was the rickshaw driver who offered his services with loud hip-hop drumbeating. If he had stayed near us any longer, I would have rudely pulled the plug on him.

For that I had come to Central Park today: The Wollman Rink
Wollman Rink is a public ice rink in the southern part of Central Park. It is named after the Wollman family who donated the funds for its original construction. The rink is open for ice skating from late October to early April.
Of course, it would have been nicer if there had been snow in general. But this year's winter in New York City doesn't allow it - it's too warm.
The Rink gained notoriety for numerous movies in which it served as a backdrop. Among them were Love Story and Serendipity. moviemaps.org/locations/369

The stop at Penn Station meant an unexpected train change for us, because our train had a defect. Therefore was time for this picture. You can also use waiting time.

They say you can identify first-time visitors to Manhattan by the way they relentlessly look up and may even run into trash cans and mailboxes. This cannot be completely dismissed, especially if you come directly to Midtown via Penn Station and leave the station under Madison Square Garden.

It is one of the most dangerous places anywhere in Manhattan - at least for me. I just can't walk by there, I have to go in. And then the shop...
