Si la vie est un songe
A quoi bon me tourmenter
Je puis m'enivrer sans remords
Et si j'en viens à tituber
Je m'endormirai sous le porche de ma demeure
A mon réveil un oiseau chante parmi les fleurs.
Je lui demande quel jour nous sommes.
Il me répond : au printemps,
la saison où l'oiseau chante !
Je me sens étrangement ému
Et prêt à m'épancher.
Mais je me reverse à boire
Et je chante tout le jour
Jusqu'à ce qu'apparaisse la lune du soir.
Et quand mes chants se taisent
Je n'ai plus conscience de ce qui m'entoure.
