Während die kurzwelligen blauen Lichtwellen der Sonnenstrahlen vollständig von der Erdatmosphäre gestreut werden, wird langwelliges, rotes Licht gebrochen und in Richtung Mond gelenkt. Dadurch schimmert der Mond rötlich und wir auch Blutmond genannt.
