Die Erdnuss ist gar keine Nuss! Botanisch ist sie nämlich eine Hülsenfrucht wie die Bohne oder Erbse. Das steckt auch im englischen Wort peanut, der Kombination aus Erbse (pea) und Nuss (nut). Den deutschen Namen Erdnuss bekam sie, weil sich ihre Früchte im Boden befinden und erst mit der Ernte ausgegraben werden.

Die Erdnuss gibt es seit mindestens 7.600 Jahren! So alt schätzen Forscher jedenfalls einen Fund aus den Anden.
