Die Luegsteinhöhle oder auch Grafenloch genannt, liegt auf einer Seehöhe von 640 Metern in Oberaudorf, Oberbayern.
Die Befestigung der Höhle im Luegstein reicht bis ins 11. Jahrhundert zurück.
Ob die Grafen von Falkenstein die Erbauer der Burg im Luegstein waren, ist unklar. Möglicherweise wurde die Höhle schon in vorgeschichtlicher Zeit genutzt. Die archäologischen Funde dazu sind allerdings sehr spärlich.
Das Grafenloch ist eine der wenigen Höhlenburgen Bayerns und gilt unter Forschern allgemein als Vorgängerbau der Auerburg auf dem Schloßberg. Nach der Errichtung der Auerburg im 13. Jahrhundert könnte die Höhle im Luegstein noch eine Zeit lang als geheimer Zufluchtsort fungiert haben.
Die Höhlenburg stammt vermutlich aus dem 11. Jahrhundert. Höhlen bzw. Burgreste dieser Art gibt es nicht viele, deshalb lohnt sich der Weg dorthin. Die Aussicht ist herrlich von dort oben. Man vermutet, dass die Höhlenburg im 11. Jahrhundert von Rittern, die wohl Vasallen oder Ministeriale der Grafen von Falkenstein waren, erbaut und wurde. Sie ist der Meinung nach wohl eine Vorgängeranlage der Auerburg.
Keramikfunde weisen auf eine Besiedelung vom 11. bis zum 13. Jahrhundert hin, was den Auszug aus der Burg um 1250 annehmen lässt. 2008 widerlegten Ausgrabungen die frühere Annahme einer Fliehburg aus der Zeit des Dreißigjährigen Krieges.
Um den nicht leicht zugängliche Eingang der Höhle zu erreichen, muss man zunächst einen Steig und dann eine vier Meter lange, steile Leiter erklimmen.Es ist auf jedenfall festes Schuhzeug angesagt und schwindelfrei muss man sein. In vier Metern Höhe ist dann die 19,5 Meter tiefe Höhlenburg. Der Ausblick ist grandios zum Zahmen und Wilden Kaiser.
Der Eingang zeigt noch Reste des Torbogens. Das Höhleninnere war vom Außenbereich durch eine auf einer massiven Stützmauer fußenden ein Meter starken Mantelmauer abgetrennt. Spuren im Höhleninneren weisen auf eine zweistöckige Nutzung, Holzauskleidung und eine heizbare Bohlenstube hin.

Sage - Sagas:
Die Sage berichtet von einem grausamen jungen Grafen, der seine Eltern ermordete und dem eine Zigeunerin deshalb als Strafe den Tod durch Blitzschlag weissagte. Aus Furcht davor verließ er die Auerburg und zog mit seinem Diener in die Höhlenburg. Dort wähnte er sich sicher. Die Pferde brachten sie in der kleineren Nachbarhöhle unter, die seitdem Roßstall heißt. Bei einem seiner Ausritte überraschte den Grafen trotz aller Vorsicht ein Gewitter. Er kehrte fluchtartig zurück, wurde aber auf der Leiter zur Höhle tödlich vom Blitz getroffen.
