Castell in Tarragona

September 11 has traditionally been the National Day of Catalonia (Diada Nacional de Catalunya). Each year the people of Catalonia commemorate the fall of Barcelona in 1714, with the emphasis nowadays on restoring Catalonia to a state independent of the Spanish Government. Tarragona is famous for its Human Towers or Castells comprising teams of up to 400 Castellers who assist in the formation of a single human tower, which can reach 10 persons high and declared by UNESCO to be amongst the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

a little bit pitty for the flag hiding the human column...
I was once for a short visit in Taragona and have some pictures of the cathedral (door) somewhere in the archives... I'll go checking. ;-)))
