A Dog, Two Kids, and Dark Shadows

Stamped on the back of this photo: "Aug 18 1949." Posted to the Vintage Photos Theme Park group as an "unintended people's shadows" photo (and there's a dog, too!).

Wow, the Gal Has a Plow!

Handwritten on the other side of this real photo postcard: "Fannie Kline." The unique elements in this photo--the tilted orientation, massive stone house, little chicken/big horse juxtaposition, shadow people at the bottom, and unenthusiastic look of the woman posing with the plow--all combine to make for an odd yet amusing scene.

A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the theme of trick or treat (go crazy with this one and post as many photos as you want--no limit! Halloween, costumes, masks, skeletons, devils, human monsters, things that go bump in the night, ghostly apparitions, or anything you find scary or creepy) . I thought I'd prime the VPTP pump and post the first Halloween photo this week before Ipernity temporarily goes offline for maintenance tomorrow, October 24 . This photo, "Taken Oct. 29, 1951," as it says on the back, shows kids dressed in Halloween costumes for what I interpret as a Big Bad Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood , with only a jack-o'-lantern separating the bad wolf from the little girl. Added bonus: the photographer is casting a shadow on the wolf.

Man and Woman with Cow and Calves

A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the theme of barns, barnyards, and barnyard animals . This is a real photo postcard of a man and woman posing outside a barn with a cow and the cow's twin calves. The photographer's shadow fell across the woman and one of the calves. The postcard is unused with a divided back, but there's no stamp box or other details on the other side to help determine when or where the photo was taken. It's likely, however, that the image dates to the late 1900s or 1910s, and the location may be somewhere in Pennsylvania. For some comparable photos, see Fancy Cow and Calf and Triplet Calves, Rooks County, Kansas .
