A paper moon photo for the theme of photographic tricks and amusements during the free-for-all week of Wild Card Month in the Vintage Photos Theme Park. See also the full version of this real photo postcard.

A snapshot of three kids, two with accordions and one with a trumpet. Looks like the smiling boys in front are enjoying themselves, but I'm not sure whether the girl in back is having any fun. Notice the toy cannon that's situated near the edge of the porch on the left and the interesting design of the curtain or whatever it is that's hanging on the inside of the window on the right. Printed on the back: "This card is a genuine photograph, hand colored. Made in the United States." Perhaps this real photo postcard was intended as a birth announcement, since it used to be (or still is?) customary for fathers to hand out cigars to friends, relatives, and coworkers when a child was born. Otherwise, it seems rather strange to imagine a smiling infant passing out cigars like this.

Some mixed emotions (people displaying distinctly different reactions in a photo) for the Vintage Photos Theme Park. During her birthday party, a gleeful little girl opens a box containing a Minnie Mouse doll (probably a Gund from the late 1940s). Her mom and dad are eagerly watching their daughter, perhaps a little relieved that she seems to like her present so much. Another little girl--in the background next to the window--is wide-eyed with excitement. One of the boys in the photo is excited about the doll, too, and he appears to be frantically reaching up to grab it away from the birthday girl. The other boy on the left, however, is glumly contemplating the proceedings, as if he's disappointed that he didn't get something that nice. In a second photo (below), the glum boy is looking down at something else while the birthday girl and her girlfriends inspect the new doll. The grabber is almost out of the picture on the extreme right--perhaps the dad pulled him aside after he attempted to snatch the doll away. The third photo (see below) shows the birthday girl smiling proudly as she poses with her new Minnie Mouse doll.

Oh You Chestnut! When is a door not a door? When it's a-jar!! Your ancient ones are welcome. May they never seem new to us. "Chestnut," of course, can refer to an old, stale story or joke. A dysfunctional family (or oddball family) photo for the Vintage Photos Theme Park. For another possibly dysfunctional family, see First Time I Ever Saw Grandma and Grandpa, Palisades Park, 1920 . Searching for a dysfunctional/oddball family photo that I hadn't previously posted on Ipernity wasn't the easy task that I thought it would be. I do hope, however, that this photo of unsmiling family members--ironically posed beneath a "Smiles" sign--suggests enough dysfunctionality or oddballness to qualify.
