Woman and Gardenias in Swimming Pool, Hotel Ruiz Galindo, Fortín, Veracruz, Mexico

Woman and Gardenias in Swimming Pool, Hotel Ruiz Galindo, Fortín, Veracruz, Mexico
A swimming pools photo for the Vintage Photos Theme Park.

This is a real photo postcard of a woman posing among the gardenia blossoms in the swimming pool at the Hotel Ruiz Galindo, located in the city of Fortín de las Flores ("Fort of Flowers"), Veracruz, Mexico.

The gardenia flowers in the pool were a selling point, and a later postcard described the pool as "The Famous Gardenia Swimming Pool" and the hotel as "The Gardenia Resort."

Mouse over the image to see enlargements of the left side (notice the hotel guests seated beside the pool and the maid looking down from the second level) and the right side (there are two men at the diving board).

What a unique twist on the theme!
You'd think the woman in the gardenias would look a little more cheerful, though!
Perhaps she was overcome withe the gardenia fragrance which is pretty powerful.

Cool enlargements, Alan. As soon as I saw the title of your photo I thought of the song by Marty Robbins, "The Girl With Gardenias in Her Hair" and now I wonder if it wasn't inspired by this hotel. Great photo for the theme. Here's the song if you're interested. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hUiI0KJ0qU

Reminds me of a 50s horor movie: "She Came from Beneath the Gardenias".

Wow, Rick! Props to you for a great photo/song match! I've actually never heard of that singer. Does that make me a philistine?

And John - hahahahaha. Great title!

Yes. :) He had early success as a country rock and roll singer then moved more into western themed ballads. He had several hits that crossed over into the pop market, his biggest being "El Paso" (1959), a lengthy ballad that tells the heartbreaking story of a young cowboy who risks all for one last kiss from his love--very appealing to a 12-year-old boy just discovering girls worthy of dying for. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHbmbEH9CJU
